Product Description

Ultralight Downproof Pongee Fabric – CC-0014

Ultralight downproof pongee fabric CC-0014 is designed to perform one of the hardest jobs in an insulated garment without drawing attention to itself. A lining is rarely the first detail a customer notices—unless it feels heavy, makes too much noise or allows filling to escape.

At only 58 GSM, CC-0014 uses fine 32D × 32D polyester yarns in a plain-weave construction. Its smooth surface, water-repellent treatment and calendered downproof finish make it suitable for lightweight down garments, padded jackets, packable clothing and insulated equipment.

Why Choose Ultralight Downproof Pongee Fabric?

The plain weave gives CC-0014 a clean, consistent appearance without a visible ripstop grid. This is useful when designers want the lining or shell to remain visually quiet and allow quilting, colour blocking or garment shape to take priority.

The fine 32D yarn and 58 GSM weight help reduce unnecessary material bulk. For a buyer comparing 32D polyester pongee lining fabric for down garments, this construction is particularly relevant to products intended to fold, compress or pack into a limited space.

Light weight does not automatically mean suitable for every application. Fabric strength, seam performance and resistance to snagging should be assessed against the finished product, especially if CC-0014 will be used as an exposed outer shell rather than an internal lining.

What Does the Calendered Finish Do?

Calendering compresses the fabric between heated rollers, creating a smoother and tighter surface. This process helps reduce the spaces through which fine feathers or synthetic filling might migrate.

CC-0014 can therefore be considered as a water-repellent calendered fabric for lightweight insulation. The calendered surface may also change the hand feel, air permeability and sound of the fabric, so these characteristics should be reviewed during sampling rather than decided from specifications alone.

Downproof performance also depends on factors outside the fabric itself, including:

  • Feather and down quality
  • Size of the filling fibres
  • Needle thickness
  • Stitch density
  • Seam construction
  • Quilting pattern

Testing the approved fabric with the actual filling material gives a more reliable result than testing an unrelated standard filling.

Water-Repellent Protection for Lightweight Products

The W/R finish helps occasional moisture bead on the fabric surface. This can be useful for packable jackets, padded vests, sleeping bags and insulated accessories that may encounter condensation, splashes or brief exposure to light rain.

Water repellency is not the same as waterproofing. CC-0014 does not automatically provide a certified waterproof rating. Projects requiring measurable hydrostatic pressure should use a separately developed coating or lamination and confirm the result through testing.

The required water-repellency grade and wash durability should be agreed before bulk production.

Recommended Applications

For brands sourcing a 58 GSM ultralight downproof pongee fabric for padded jackets, CC-0014 may be evaluated for:

  • Lightweight down-jacket linings
  • Synthetic-filled jackets and vests
  • Packable outerwear
  • Sleeping bags and travel quilts
  • Insulated hood and pocket linings
  • Lightweight protective layers for filled accessories

Its 148 cm finished width provides a practical basis for garment and equipment cutting. Usable width, edge condition and final weight tolerance should still be confirmed before marker planning.

Development and Approval

Before approving ultralight downproof pongee fabric, buyers should review the actual colour, surface sheen, hand feel and calendering level. Dark and pale shades can reveal the compressed surface differently, while some garment designs may require a softer or firmer finish.

Custom colours and finishing adjustments can be discussed according to the intended application. During approval, we recommend checking fabric weight, usable width, colour fastness, air permeability, downproof performance and dimensional stability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use plain-weave pongee for an insulated lining?
Plain weave provides a smooth, regular surface without a visible reinforcement grid. It is suitable when the garment requires a clean lining appearance and low material weight.

Is CC-0014 completely feather-proof?
The calendered finish helps reduce feather migration, but final performance depends on filling quality, needle selection, stitch density and garment construction. Testing with the intended filling is recommended.

Can this 58 GSM fabric be used as an outer shell?
It may be considered for selected ultralight or packable products. Because it is a fine 32D fabric, abrasion, seam and snagging performance should be confirmed through garment testing first.
